Join Cody on new adventures!
When a bunch of product developers, automation engineers, and industrial mechanics, like the ones you usually find in the workshop wearing flannel shirts with a screwdriver in hand, are going on a team-building trip, perhaps the first thing you wouldn't expect is for them to go glamping?
But yes, we embarked on a glamping trip in the wilderness, with a twist! Our excuse was that this was glamping including off-road cycling. The trip went to Gautefall and Norrøna Canvas Camp, in the forests of Telemark.
At first glance, Canvas Hotel resembles an African safari lodge. Traditional Kyrgyz yurts and specially designed canvas tents are scattered around the landscape. You can choose to relax in the wood-fired saunas or in one of their outdoor bathtubs. They have their own chef, and they serve absolutely delicious meals.
We at Cody try to arrange one team-building activity per year. It's important for morale, and everyone needs to unwind and think about something other than work now and then. Even though both phones and computers were brought along if necessary, of course...
We set out on our journey Tuesday morning in mid-June and were back home Wednesday afternoon with a little extra 'zen' and new memories in our luggage. Plus, some sore bodies from cycling, of course... We were very lucky with the weather and could therefore enjoy all the camp's facilities.
Important to maintain camaraderie
Everyone agrees that team-building in the wilderness is a good idea. Being far away from other alternatives brings people together, and you experience something you don't do every day together. There were good dinners and conversations late into the summer night. As product developer Christian Skoe put it: - "Everyone was in bed before morning."
Our previous team trip was to the beautiful Folldal with horseback riding and fishing, so sore bodies, new experiences, and beautiful nature have been common themes here, says managing director Ken André Myhra Kihle. - We have a workplace that gives us exciting and challenging tasks. We have fun at work, but we have a fast pace, and getting into constantly new development projects demands a lot from the employees. Then I think it's important to distance oneself a bit and do something completely different together. We have made several new hires in recent years - also through the Covid period - and it is important for me to maintain and continue the camaraderie we have at Cody.
