2 MILLION NOK GRANT TO CONDUCT A FEASIBILITY STUDY ON AUTONOMOUS SHORE POWER CONNECTION FOR SHIPS

Cody has received a grant from Innovation Norway to conduct a feasibility study on autonomous shore power connection for ships. Through previous work on shore power connection, Cody's developers have seen great potential for improvement in the infrastructure, and are now starting the initial phase of developing an autonomous solution.

The electrification of ferry and ship traffic is in full swing, and Cody wants to be a key provider of new technology is exploited. One of the challenges with today's solutions is that they require staffing, are time-consuming to use and sensitive to harsh climatic conditions. We will develop a solution that solves all these problems so that the charging time the ships get at the quay is as long as possible, and that the threshold for switching to hybrid or fully electric transport is lower. The overall goal is for the solution to become a preferred standard and that it is easily integrated on existing ships and quays.

There are many stakeholders and technologies that must be taken into account in the project. The support from Innovation Norway gives us the opportunity to conduct surveys with all parties involved such as port owners, shipping companies, power companies, battery manufacturers and technology suppliers. It is worth mentioning regional players such as Skagerak Energi, Grenland Havn, Corvus Energy and Color Line. New technology must be developed before the first, fully automatic shore power plant is ready, and Cody will initiate collaboration with relevant research environments and technology suppliers.

We look forward to starting the work, and to seeing what local and national ripple effects the project will have.
